There are a lot of tips out there about the right and wrong ways to charge your iPhone — and plenty of misconceptions floating around about wireless charging, as well. Wireless charging is a convenient tool to help you charge your device when you don’t have charging cables around. It can be used for a variety of devices — from phones to headsets and even laptops and notebooks. But concerns have been raised about how safe and effective wireless chargers actually are. How many of these questions are legit and how many are non-issues?

Let’s get to the bottom of this.

Can wireless chargers damage your iPhone? Here’s the truth.

Wireless Chargers Don’t All Damage Your Phone’s Battery

Some wireless chargers can damage your battery, it’s true. But a great many others will not. The concern here isn’t ALL wireless chargers, but rather, low-quality chargers and possibly some knock-off chargers that were purchased on the cheap. These counterfeit chargers didn’t go through quality control measures and promises can’t be made that they are entirely safe for your device.

But if you are using a trusted brand and one that has tested the devices that you’ll likely be charging (including your iPhone), it’s prepared to deliver the charging speed needed for that specific device.

Your Phone Won’t Overheat

There are always a few good tips to follow when charging your phone — regardless of whether you’re using a wireless charger or a charging cable. Removing the case is often unnecessary, but let’s file that tip under “can’t hurt, either.” More importantly, to keep your phone from overheating, don’t do things like using resource-intensive apps while it’s charging. If you can leave it in peace to charge without your interference, all the better. But if you have to send a text or take a call while it’s on a wireless charger. the chances that it will overheat are low.

Yes, You Can Charge Your Phone Overnight

Overnight charging is simply more convenient for some of us, especially if you have a hectic schedule during the day and find it a challenge to take charging breaks. In the past, concerns about charging devices overnight were brought up after very real (but still rare) incidences of phones catching fire while charging. But today’s wireless chargers are generally safe, especially if you’re choosing one that is reputable.

Still, keep in mind that the best way to charge your device is to do so in intervals during the day so that its battery stays charged between 30 and 80 percent. There’s no need to charge it to 100 percent all of the time, and doing so isn’t the best charging practice for your phone.

Go on and feel the freedom of charging with a wireless charger if you wish. There are plenty of pros to doing so, and not as many cons as you might have suspected.
