The first exercise you should try, according to kuudose founding celebrity wellness expert Joey Thurman, is cardio. He explains, “Cardio will trigger your digestive system, GI tract, and help you get rid of some gas and bloat. This will help with that stomach pain and help you fit into those jeans more comfortably.” Hop on a bike for a spin around your neighborhood or lace up your sneakers and hit the pavement for a light jog.
If cardio sounds like too much effort to you, Thurman also suggests trying abdominal stretches for when your stomach is feeling particularly bloated. He says, “When you are activating your core you are also encouraging blood flow to the area and in turn help with any bloating.” Other movements he suggests trying out are variations of a plank, deadlift or pushup. The idea is to get the body moving and blood flowing!
Kuudose wellness expert Sarah Gillette comments that if you’re looking to get to the root of your bloating, it’s important to take a good look at your diet which is likely where the problem stems from. In the meantime, she suggests a simple yoga flow to temporarily solve the issue. “Twisting is a natural detoxification of the body. Wringing it of toxins will stimulate the digestive tract and reduce bloating.”
If your bloating can’t be beaten by some light stretching or a more intense cardio, Gillette suggests taking a walk. She says, “Doing this first thing in the morning is very beneficial as fasted cardio. It regulates the digestive tract as well, getting good blood flow to your limbs and also setting the tone for your day.”
You can’t always control how your body will react from day to day, but you can control how you treat it to work through the uncomfortable reactions. Movement is great for the soul and the body, and listening to your inflamed belly and giving it some TLC with a cardio sesh or some light stretching is the best way to rid your body of unwanted bloat in no time!
