If you have a "cheat day" on your diet plan, chances are you likely binge on whatever terrible food you can't eat otherwise. But that's not really how a cheat day should be done.
Overeating unhealthy foods as a "reward" for eating clean the rest of the week, or binging on junk food post-workout, can ruin your metabolism and make weight loss even harder despite your best efforts.
"This type of behavior only promotes a roller coaster effect on your metabolism and weight. There is a punishment-reward attitude that creeps in which only leads to weight gain," confirms Dr. Ben Gonzalez, Chief Medical Officer of REVOLISM.
So there isn't a "cheat day food" that's better for you, it's just about how you approach eating whatever you choose to treat yourself to.
Dr. Gonzalez recommends to "think about a 'super healthy eating day' that includes your favorite types of healthy foods you eat more of or enjoy with friends and family....reward yourself with a larger healthy meal, a dessert that includes your favorite fruits with a bit of your favorite ice cream on top. More fruit than ice cream...."
