Parabens

According to Dr. Blackwell, "The conditioner ingredients that are recommended for oily hair should vary based on the type of hair, the level of oiliness, and the hair's specific needs. However, an example of a conditioner ingredient that is best avoided for women with oily hair is parabens."

She warns, "Parabens may cause an increase in skin sensitivity to other chemicals, which can lead to scalp irritation and unsightly scalp redness. It may cause impaired lather ability, leading to greasy hair and less effective washing." Dr. Blackwell continues, "Parabens [can] be so sensitive to sunlight, leading to skin irritation, and [may also be] a potential cause of dermatitis and hair loss. Additionally, several uses of conditioners containing parabens are known to interfere with the female hormone responsible for reproductive functions: estrogen. It may cause estrogen imbalance and may also increase the chances of being infertile."

Hair Care Habits For Women With Oily Hair

If you have oily hair, Dr. Blackwell recommends that you shampoo your hair every day. "Shampooing your hair helps to cleanse it, remove build-up, and may also help in the removal of dandruff," she tells us. When you shampoo your hair, you're making it easier to style and you're also letting it look more shiny and healthy. Dr. Blackwell concludes," It's important to avoid heat styling. Use a leave-in conditioner or serum, and avoid products with sulfurated chemicals and parabens."
