Some apps are simply less secure than others. If you’re worried that you could be compromising your data and security, it may be time to turn to the apps that you use on a regular basis and figure out which of them could be doing more harm than good.

Ready to give a little more thought to your apps? Here are some that tech experts say could pose data and privacy concerns.

Threads

Thread is a relatively new app that was designed to mimic Twitter, with a few benefits that more closely relate to Instagram. The problem with this app is that it already has accumulated a great deal of data on us, including health, financial, contact, user, browser information, purchases, and even location. It even has the 411 on your search history. Tech experts are stumped over why Threads would need this much information about you.

Other Meta Applications

Meta owns a number of apps that are cited as being among the worst for data and privacy, including Threads, Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger. Whenever possible, delete Meta apps and access them via your browser if possible. Doing this helps protect your data and has the added benefit of using up less battery power and storage space on your phone.

Some other apps that are worth keeping on your radar for privacy and data include weather apps, which always know your location for obvious reasons, and food delivery service apps like DoorDash, which have access to your financial information, location, and can even make presumptions about your health.

The more protections you take and the more you know about apps that can compromise your data, the better equipped you’ll be to retain your privacy.
