Although face masks are an increasingly popular way to treat yourself, some masks can be too harsh on sensitive skin–doing more harm than good. To avoid irritating your skin, steering clear of certain face masks could be the key.

Peel-Off Masks
Although peel-off masks are a popular way to try to unclog your pores, they can sometimes be too harsh--especially if you have sensitive skin that irritates easily.
Jessica Weiser, MD, a New York City dermatologist at New York Dermatology Group, explains to Well And Good, "I avoid peel-off masks that contain any glue-based adhesive because they are pulling away beyond the dead skin cells at the surface and can cause significant damage to the skin."
With this in mind, although peel-off masks might seem like a good idea, it's probably be best to stay away.
Specifically, peel-off masks have the unfortunate habit of drying your skin out, which can lead to discoloration and other skin problems.
Staying away from intense exfoliators can also be a good idea to keep your skin looking its best. Although it's smart to exfoliate once in awhile, regularly using a exfoliating face mask can do more harm than good, leading to inflammation and sensitivity.
If you still want to indulge in a face mask to treat yourself, being selective about the products you use could save your skin unnecessary irritation. Read here for some skin-saving face masks that will help your skin look younger and healthier than ever!
