Experts Agree: This Is The One Fast Food Breakfast Sandwich You Should Stop Eating (You Won’t Believe What’s In It!)

Many of us think of eggs as a healthy food option–and they are!–but the rule doesn’t necessarily apply for fast food eggs. They contain the most insane list of preservatives, leading one to wonder–why can’t an egg just be an egg? McDonald’s, Wendy’s… they’re all guilty of using things like xanthan gum and citric acid to create the “eggs” in their breakfast sandwiches and omelets.

But the worst offender by far is Subway. Their flatbread sandwiches like the Bacon, Egg & Cheese and Steak, Egg & Cheese contain a startling list of more than ten additives in their “premium egg blend.”

Not only are these ingredients nearly impossible to read, but they’re also found in shocking non-food items like shaving cream and varnish. Yikes! Here’s everything you need to know about what the fast food chain serves for breakfast:

Although the sandwich chain no longer has the ingredients listed on their website, it has been widely reported that their egg blend has almost a dozen ingredients.

One of the ingredients is propylene glycol, which is a a solvent for food colors and flavoring that also happens to be found in anti-freeze and deodorant! Then you have glycerin, a solvent found in soap and shaving cream.

But that's not all--the egg mixture also contain tertiary butylhydroquinone, which is used in foods to extend the shelf life and prevent rancidity--and is also used in perfumes and nail lacquer! Then you've got dimethylpolysiloxane, which is used in silly putty and lubricants. Last but not least is calcium silicate, a delightful ingredient that can be found in roofs, roads and concrete. Wow!
