When your iPhone is begging for more storage and battery power, one of the best things you can do (short of buying a new phone, which, don’t do that just yet) is get a really good understanding of which apps are the most taxing on your battery and storage. You may have 30 apps downloaded, but only one or two of them could be the culprits behind serious battery drainage and storage issues. And though the apps you use most will determine lately which you should point fingers at, there are a few apps that are known across the board as being particularly draining.

Tech Expert Drew Romero from tkxel.com counts this one extremely popular app as the worst iPhone app for storage and battery.

TikTok

One app that frequently affects both storage and battery life is TikTok, Romero says. “This app consumes a significant amount of storage due to its large cache files and unnecessary data accumulation,” he adds. “Users often experience their device running out of storage space quickly, leading to performance issues. Additionally, TikTok continuously runs background processes and utilizes excessive system resources, resulting in substantial battery drain.”

The best thing you can do to really tackle this problem is to delete TikTok. But let’s say you’re not there yet — there are a few more tips Romero mentions that you can try to mitigate these issues.

Clearing the app cache

“Open the app’s settings within the iPhone’s “Settings” app and look for a cache-clearing option,” Romero says. “Clearing the cache can help free up storage space and potentially improve battery life.”

Managing app permissions

Review the app's permission settings and disable any unnecessary access to features like location services, background refresh, or constant notifications, Romero recommends. “This can limit the app's resource usage and minimize battery consumption,” he says.

Updating the app

“Developers often release updates to address performance and optimization issues,” Romero says. “Check for updates in the App Store regularly, as newer versions may include fixes that improve both storage usage and battery life.”

There’s no doubt that TikTok is doing a number on your iPhone’s battery and storage capabilities.
