The ability of makeup to highlight natural beauty and provide anti-aging benefits is significant. Surgical face lifts can be costly, but there are effective and safe ways to mimic their results with makeup. In an informative TikTok video, makeup artist and content creator Christen Dominique discussed five frequent makeup errors that many women make, which can unintentionally cause a droopier appearance.

Dominique also offered tips on how to correct these mistakes to achieve a more lifted and defined look. She began her video by announcing that she would share “five makeup mistakes that are ruining your makeup” and leading to a look that is “separating and peeling.”

5 Makeup Mistakes That Can Lead To A 'Peeling' Or Patchy Look This Winter—And How To Fix Them

1. Using A Water-Based Primer With A Silicone Foundation

Dominique emphasized the significance of matching primer and foundation types, such as using water-based products together or silicone-based products together. She noted that a patchy or peeling look "is most likely because you're using a water-based primer with a silicone foundation or a silicone primer with a water-based foundation." She added: "you want make sure you're using silicone primers and silicone foundation." This is because "water and silicone repel each other, so even if it looks good at first, throughout the day it'll start to peel, separate, and just slide off your face."

2. Applying Concealer With Too Much Force

If you're finding that your "concealers aren't giving you coverage," Dominique says that "you might be rubbing the product around and also tugging out your skin." She warns that this way of applying concealer can "give you premature aging" and it's better to "be nicer to our skin." With that said, she notes that the correct way to apply it is to "lightly pat in our concealer, and it's going to give so much more coverage." In her video, she urged viewers to "look at the difference" this can make.

3. Not 'Cleaning Off Your Skincare' Before Filling In Brows

Have you ever noticed leftover residue from your cleanser, toner, or other skincare products on your face after washing? Dominique explains that not thoroughly removing these products can affect how well your brows fill in and the longevity of your makeup throughout the day. "Your brow products are not sticking to your face or they do not last? Clean off your skincare before you do your makeup and then fill in your brows before you apply any makeup," she instructs.

4. Putting On Mascara Before Fake Lashes

If you're noticing that your "real lashes are sticking out of your fake" ones, the makeup artist says that this is "probably because you're putting on your mascara, then putting the lash on right after." Instead, she noted that you want to "use a lifting or curling mascara first" and then "curl your lashes." This will make the "corners lifted," she added."

5. Using Blush And Bronzer Straight On Your Skin Without Blending It First

If you're seeing that your "blush and your bronzer are patchy," the makeup artist acknowledged that you "might be going straight in and then applying on your face." This error is "going to leave an uneven amount of product on the brush," she warns. Instead, she says to "swirl it on the back of your hand and then apply it" for a "flawless" finish.
