Have you ever wondered why your friend’s iPhone seems to last forever while you feel like you need a replacement every eight months? It’s very possible that you are unknowingly making a few common iPhone mistakes that could be slowly destroying your phone battery. David Lynch, the Content Lead for Payette Forward, Inc., a digital publishing company with a focus on cell phones and cell phone plans, spoke to SHEFinds.com about the worst thing you could ever do to your phone. Once you’re aware of this mistake you’ll avoid making it.

According to Lynch, the worst thing you can do to your iPhone is leave it in a very hot environment for an extended period of time. “One of the most common examples of this is leaving your iPhone in the car on a hot summer day,” Lynch says.

Your iPhone’s Lithium-ion battery runs at its best when it remains within a certain temperature range. “iPhones have a standard operating temperature of 32 – 95º Fahrenheit,” Lynch says. “Things can go wrong if your iPhone dips below or rises above those temperatures. Extreme cold won't cause any serious problems — your iPhone will likely just turn off until it reaches a higher temperature.”

But extreme heat is a whole different story.

“Battery capacity can reduce,” Lynch says. “The battery could also expand, leaving less room for your iPhone's other internal components and wreaking havoc.”

The great news is that it’s a breeze to not make this mistake — do not leave your iPhone in hot environments. “If you're by the pool or at the beach, make sure to put your iPhone in the shade,” Lynch says. “There are also some thermal iPhone cases that can help prevent your iPhone from overheating.”
