If you’re looking for a healthier option when dining at Wendy’s, there is one menu item that experts say you should avoid as much as you can for your heart health.

According to an in-depth report by Eat This, Not That that was reviewed by registered dietitian and health expert Leslie Bonci, there is one burger on the Wendy’s menu that is unquestionably unhealthy.

The Pretzel Bacon Pub Triple, a beloved option among fans, falls under this category and should be avoided for the sake of one’s health.

After all, the burger has a whopping 1,520 calories, 106 grams of fat (45 grams saturated fat, 5 grams trans fat), 1,940 milligrams of sodium, 54 grams of carbs (4 grams of fiber, 6 grams of sugar) and 89 grams of protein.

Experts Say That Wendy's Pretzel Bacon Pub Triple Is Its Unhealthiest Burger

Undoubtedly, this Wendy's burger creation surpasses the mere label of big. Comprising three of their signature square beef patties, it's embellished with additions like warm beer cheese sauce, smoky honey mustard, crispy fried onions, pickles, and a slice of muenster cheese, all resting snugly between a pretzel bun.

This gargantuan burger undeniably bears an impressive appearance, yet upon closer inspection, raises concerns regarding its potential impact on one's health. In essence, as Eat This, Not That points out, consuming this burger in a single sitting may pose too many risks to justify its indulgence.

Apart from it having over 1000 calories, this menu item contains an alarming 106 grams of fat, which far exceeds the FDA's recommendation of 78 grams per day for someone on a 2,000-calorie diet. This burger alone surpasses the recommended daily limit of fat consumption.  

It also contains a substantial amount of trans fat - 5 grams to be precise. This type of fat, as the publication points out, is known to raise your LDL or "bad" cholesterol, while simultaneously lowering your HDL or "good" cholesterol. Prolonged consumption of trans fats can result in heart disease and stroke, which is why the FDA suggests limiting their intake as much as possible, ideally to zero.

Upon inspecting the sodium content of this Wendy's burger, another concern arises. It's worth noting that the American Heart Association recommends a maximum daily sodium intake of 2,300 milligrams for adults.

This Pretzel Bacon Pub Triple packs a hefty 1,940 milligrams, which is rapidly approaching the limit for your entire daily intake. Opting for a healthier alternative, the outlet suggests the Jr. Hamburger with a mere 250 calories instead of the indulgent Pretzel Bacon Pub Triple with over 1,000 calories.

In addition, the Jr. Hamburger boasts only 420 milligrams of sodium, significantly less than the high sodium content found in the Pretzel Bacon Pub Triple.
