Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner have been in the news a ton recently. The divorced parents who have 3 children together have returned to the spotlight since Affleck started opening up about their relationship and his struggles with sobriety.
Most recently, however, news about the couple came from an unexpected source: director Gavin O’Connor. O'Connor, who directed Affleck's The Way Back, opened up about how Garner stood up for Affleck when they thought about shutting down the movie due to Affleck returning to rehab.
According to O'Connor, a University of Pennsylvania alum, Garner pleaded Affleck's case. He told 34th Street, "His ex-wife Jennifer Garner called me up, and told me that when he went to rehab, he took a basketball with him. She said, ‘Gavin, he’s asking you, please don’t pull the plug on the movie, he really wants to do this.’"
The movie follows the story of a former basketball star struggling with alcoholism as he coaches a high school basketball team.
Garner's support of Affleck during this difficult time speaks to what Affleck opened up about earlier this year, when he called their divorce the "biggest regret of [his] life."
