If you thought your family gatherings and reunions were awkward, they’re nothing compared to the tense and rigid occassions between the Royal Family. As Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are on their way out of the Royal Family (and associating spotlight), it’s safe to assume their family members are not too pleased with this arrangement.
A big area of uncomfortable ties, lays between brothers Harry and William – as well as their wives: Kate and Meghan. Before leaving for North America, to start their lives as ‘ordinary joes’, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had one final Royal Engagement to attend to… The Commonwealth Church Service at Westminister Abby.
While this service is meant to celebrate Commonwealth Day and the joining of Commonwealth Nations (around 54 countries), this was far from a celebration. Instead it was a service with awkward hellos, displaced body language, and underlying tension.
While it may seem like family should stick together, we’re not sure how the dynamics between William, Harry, Kate, and Meghan will ultimately play out.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle - A Team Of Their Own
Both Harry and Meghan are famously known for doing things in their own way. Frightened by the fait of Harry's mother Princess Diana, the two want to remove themselves from the stress and anxiety that comes with being a member of the Royal Family. The two lean on each other for support - a sign of a strong couple. In the midst of tension, as Harry was saying hi to brother William, Harry grabbed ahold of his wedding ring (which any body-reading expert would tell you is a sign of wanting comfort). The anxiety wasn't unfounded for Prince Harry, as the greeting recieved back from brother Prince William, was bleek.
Not Your Traditional Royal
Even in their last Royal Family Occassion, Meghan Markle broke Royal Protocal. While it's traditional practice to not touch the Royals (anything but a hand-shake is seen as a big 'no'), Meghan has been known to break this rule by gifting out hugs. Innocent enough, it's simply not what the Royals do! At the Commonwealth service, Meghan was seen hugging a little girl who gifted her flowers.
Kate's Reaction to Meghan at Commonwealth Service
By looking at associating videos or images, the communication between both Kate and Meghan during the service was less than pleasant. While Meghan is seen waving and smiling hello to Kate, Kate slowly deflects the comments and is seen casually ignoring both Meghan and Prince Harry. Whether it's due to the feelings she has towards Meghan, or supporting her husband in the rift between him and his both Harry (maybe a little of both), it's clear from the interaction the two are not on good terms.
The Evolution of the Royals' Friendships
At this particular time, the four royals (William, Harry, Kate, and Meghan), are not in the best relationship. However it wasn't always this tense! The four have tackled philanthropic causes together (like mental health), as well as joined each other in social and familial gatherings. A big takeaway between the dynamic of the four Royals, is said to be based upon the relationship between Prince William and his brother Harry. When the two are in good spirits, wives Kate and Meghan are seen with each other more often. As these two are in strife now, we're here to say it might not be forever. Brothers' fight, and the relationship of William and Harry will eventually (hopefully) become stronger again.
