A recent documentary revealed how Prince William, as a child, felt about his future as king. According to royal experts, the young prince was well aware of his royal duty from a young age and felt nervous about his future–even expressing that he did not want to be king.

According to Express, the recent royal documentary William and Kate: Too Good To Be True reveals how a young Prince William thought about becoming king, including commentary from royal commentator Rebecca English and royal biographer Anna Pasternak.

Pasternak explains, "Very early on he would have had a potent sense of his destiny. He would have known that one day he was due to become King."

English adds, "He often used to say to his mother he didn’t really want to be King."

At that point, Harry would step in and offer to take his place.

In the documentary, Jeremy Paxman, a British broadcaster and journalist, comments on the same thing. According to the Mirror, he went to lunch with Princess Diana about a year before she died and told him a similar story.

He explains, "We talked about our children and she said William often told her that he didn’t really want to be king, and then Harry would say, ‘If you don’t want the job, I’ll have it!'"

Prince William recently spoke to BBC News about his thoughts on becoming king: “I don’t lie awake waiting to be king, because sadly that means that my family will have moved on and I don’t want that.”
