In light of the slew of accusations made against Ellen DeGeneres and her show, including ones that say the host fostered a “toxic” work environment, some celebrities have started speaking out in support of the talk show host.
Kevin Hart, a close friend of Ellen’s, was one of the celebrities to do so–and his decision has definitely gotten mixed reactions from fans.
Keep reading for the details.
In a public post on Instagram, Hart shared a picture of one of his appearances on The Ellen Show and added a lengthy caption to defend DeGeneres.
Hart wrote, "It’s crazy to see my friend go thru what she’s going thru publicly. I have known Ellen for years and I can honestly say that she’s one of the dopest people on the [...] planet. She has treated my family and my team with love and respect from day 1. The internet has become a crazy world of negativity....we are falling in love with peoples down fall. It’s honestly sad...When did we get here?"
He continued, "I stand by the ones that I know and that I love. Looking forward to the future where we get back to loving one another....this hate shit has to stop. Hopefully it goes out of style soon....This post is not meant to disregard the feelings of others and their experiences....It’s simply to show what my experiences have been with my friend. Love you for life Ellen..."
It seemed that Ellen appreciated her friend's show of support. The two were recently spotted out to lunch together at Rosewood Miramar Beach in Montecito, California, according to People.
However, fans were not happy with his post, with many criticizing him for not recognizing that Ellen might treat him (as a celebrity) differently than she treats her staff.
One critic commented, "Notice all the verified celebs sticking up for Ellen? It's a closed circle, and we're not invited."
Another wrote, "It is CLEARLY not about how she treats her celebrity friends. It is about how she treats those behind the scenes, who do not have the voice or platform you do."
Hart is not the only celebrity to come to Ellen's defense. Alec Baldwin, Jay Leno, Ashton Kutcher, Katy Perry, and Diane Keaton have also publicly spoken out against the rumors surrounding DeGeneres.
They have faced similar backlash for defending the host.
