Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are back home in Canada after recently making their last appearance as senior royals last week.
After taking some time away from the spotlight following the announcement that they were stepping back from their royal duties, both Harry and Meghan seemed distant from Prince William and Kate Middleton at Commonwealth Day in Westminster Abbey on March 9.
PEOPLE reports that Harry and Meghan warmly greeted Prince William and Kate Middleton, and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge briefly reciprocated their greeting. However, William and Kate continued to swiftly take their seats in a separate row from Harry and Meghan. Both couples chose to speak to other people around them to avoid further interaction between the brothers and their wives.
The couples have not been spotted together since Remembrance Day events back in November, so it comes as no surprise that things must be a little awkward.
A source reveals to PEOPLE that the brothers are distant now as they are busy in the mix of their own individual lives and families. “They are on different paths now,” the source says. “It’s just the reality of the situation.” How heartbreaking is that?!
The Sussex Royal Instagram representing Prince Harry and Meghan Markle recapped the Commonwealth Day event on a brighter note by sharing happy candid photos of Harry and Meghan at the event.
“This afternoon, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended the annual Commonwealth Service at Westminster Abbey on Commonwealth Day, alongside Her Majesty The Queen and Members of The Royal Family,” the photo caption reads. The caption further explains the history behind the Commonwealth and its goals as a global network.
We certainly hope that time will allow tensions between members of the royal family to be lifted.
