Ellen DeGeneres was caught saying some extremely “tone deaf” comments while filming a segment for her show while quarantining at home. The comedian compared quarantine to being in jail, and her remarks were met with immediate backlash.

Most of the backlash centered around the talk show host’s luxurious quarantine accommodations–and the lack of respect shown to actual prisoners who are seriously suffering as COVID-19 spreads through their facilities and more and more of them are testing positive.

In the since-deleted video, the 62-year-old joked, ""One thing that I've learned from being in quarantine is that people--this is like being in jail, is what it is."

She continued, "It's mostly because I've been wearing the same clothes for 10 days and everyone in here is gay."

These comments come at a bad time for the comedian considering recent Twitter thread was devoted to exposing Ellen for being mean and insensitive. It also called attention to the hypocrisy behind the talk show host's constant message of "Be kind to one another."

Ellen is also under fire for the treatment of her staff and crew during the pandemic. The talk show host claimed that she resumed broadcasting from her home for her staff and crew: "I love them, I miss them, the best thing I can do to support them is to keep the show on the air."

However, according to her staff and crew, the opposite is true. The host is being accused of ignoring their questions and concerns, hiring non-union replacement workers, and cutting their pay.
