Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, are dwindling their Royal ties step by step. From moving away to Canada, renouncing their thrones, and excusing themselves from Royal events and signature obligations, each action is pulling the two further away from Prince Harry’s family (including her Majesty the Queen). This time, the couple have decided to remove something that both tied them with their fans/followers as well as their previous title… their SussexRoyal Instagram page.
With COVID19 putting the world into an uncertain landscape when it comes to health, safety, and security, the (previous) Royal couple does not want to make their family politics and independent decisions a talking point amongst the British citizens and global fans. With the announcement of their closing Instagram page, they captioned:
“As we can all feel, the world at this moment seems extraordinarily fragile. Yet we are confident that every human being has the potential and opportunity to make a difference—as seen now across the globe, in our families, our communities and those on the front line—together we can lift each other up to realise the fullness of that promise.
What’s most important right now is the health and wellbeing of everyone across the globe and finding solutions for the many issues that have presented themselves as a result of this pandemic.
As we all find the part we are to play in this global shift and changing of habits, we are focusing this new chapter to understand how we can best contribute.
While you may not see us here, the work continues.
Thank you to this community – for the support, the inspiration and the shared commitment to the good in the world. We look forward to reconnecting with you soon. You’ve been great!
Until then, please take good care of yourselves, and of one another.” – Harry and Meghan
The History Behind Meghan and Harry's Instagram
While the couple's heartfelt message of the two removing themselves from Instagram under the SussexRoyal account was honorable and sincere, it wasn't completely out of left field. In fact, the two have been in discussion with the Queen, in regard to their usage of the Sussex and Royal name for both their popularity and monetary benefit. It was decided that the couple would forgo the name to use for personal gain (which includes their social media accounts).
Removing the Royal Title
It has not been an easy road for Harry and Meghan. Family ties have been weakened (including the relationship between siblings William and Harry), financial privledges have been revoked, and previous working relationships reconfigured (this includes the couple's charity work). In recent news, as all Sussex or Royal titles have been asked to be removed from Queen Elizabeth II, the couple is also having to cancel tens of thousands of work in branding for their campaign that was set to launch in the near future (this includes a website, stationary items, child books, etc).
Royal Family Ties in The Midst of COVID19
As the two were kind enough to acknowledge the trying times the world is currently facing amidst a pandemic, this virus hits close to home (in particularly for Harry). While living in Canada with Meghan and Archie, his father Prince Charles and Prime Minister Boris Johnson have both tested positive. As of today (April 10th, 2020), his dad is recovering and Johnson was moved out of ICU. While it looks positive, Harry still feels the guilt of leaving his family and country in a particularly grim time.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Global Relief
While Sussex Royal is no longer available to Harry and Meghan, this setback will not stop their Global Relief efforts (including aide to support the consequences of COVID19 - for both individual's health and economic blunder). Their new efforts will be channeled through their newly named charity organization Archewell (inspired by their son Archie).
