Reese Witherspoon is being sued by a group of teachers for misleading them about a free dress giveaway. Yikes!

Reese and her lifestyle company Draper James are the targets in a class-action lawsuit filed by three women who claim that the “Little Fires Everywhere” producer duped them by offering free dresses to teachers amid the novel coronavirus outbreak. This is not the ending we wanted!

In case you missed it, back in April, the 44-year-old's clothing company promoted a giveaway of free dresses for teachers.

"Dear Teachers: We want to say thank you. During quarantine, we see you working harder than ever to educate our children," the company stated in an April 2nd post to the platform. "To show our gratitude, Draper James would like to give teachers a free dress." The post then offered instructions for how to apply and stated that the offer was valid "while supplies last."

So, what's so wrong with that? Well, the suit claims that there were only 250 dresses available and over a million teachers entered the giveaway. By these odds, only a small fraction of participants who applied to the giveaway would actually receive one.

And not only that, but per typical giveaways of their sort, this one required that the entrants provide their personal information to enter. The suit claims Reese's brand spent an "estimated paltry $12,500 in actual cost." Well, we certainly know that she can afford more than that.

The women also claim that the company got free self-promotion for the giveaway thanks to mentions on morning talk shows "Today" and "Good Morning America."

So, what do you think? Is Reese at fault here, or is it a case of "no good deed goes unpunished."
