The more we learn the more we realize that the royal rift between Prince William and Prince Harry is seemingly never going to go away.
A new book titled Battle of Brothers: The Inside Story of a Family in Tumult by historian Robert Lacey just dropped and the details of William and Harry’s relationship are shocking.
It’s never fun to be compared to a sibling or close family member. Now, imagine that happening in the public eye for billions of people to see. Well, Prince Harry certainly knows a thing or two about that.
Lacey’s book details how Harry was set up to be portrayed as the mischievous partying younger brother to William, which created a long-lasting rift between the brothers over the years.
All the way back in 2002 Harry had visited a drug rehab clinic to learn about the work done by the organization, but palace officials made the situation out to be something Prince Charles had set up for Harry. An excerpt of the book obtained by PEOPLE reads, "Dad might have emerged from the story smelling of roses, but it was Harry who was typecast as the 'Bad Boy of Buckingham Palace'."
In an interview with PEOPLE, Lacey explained the lasting impact of the on-going battle between William and Harry. "Both brothers have been damaged by their upbringings; both have reacted by finding different solutions," Lacey says. "There is so much pain and trauma in this story, going right back to the beginning."
Reports of growing tensions between the brothers continue to be released even to this day, especially after Harry’s marriage to American Meghan Markle in 2018 and his shocking decision to step away from his royal duties and life earlier this year.
And it certainly looks like things will stay this way for quite some time. According to The Mirror, Harry and Meghan don’t have plans to celebrate the upcoming winter holidays with Harry’s family back in England. They will instead celebrate in America alongside baby Archie and friends David Foster and Katherine McPhee.
