Zac Efron is starring in a new movie, The Iron Claw, but you wouldn’t know it looking at the promotional pictures. It appears as if the High School Musical has changed up his look yet again, with fans saying, “What happened to his face?”
The Iron Claw is a film about wrestling, and the star says he made a lot of lifestyle changes to prepare for the role. “I started intermittent fasting just after I stopped being vegan,” Efron told Men’s Health. “My body wasn’t processing the vegetables in the right way.”
But fans think it’s more than dietary habits, writing on Reddit, “He’s definitely taking growth hormones,” and “injections ruined his jaw/lips.”
But, Efron declines having any work done, saying instead that the 2013 accident he was involved in caused the muscles in his face to enlarge. “They just got really, really big,'” he said.
Zac Efron, 36, has worn all kinds of costumes in his film roles of the past few years, and the actor has the ability to truly transform into each required character, whether that be a ripped lifeguard in Baywatch, Ted Bundy in Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile or a 19th century playwright in The Greatest Showman. Now, Efron has changed up his look yet again for what seems like a poignant role in humid filming conditions.

In new teaser images and clips for his new film, The Greatest Beer Run Ever, Efron looks much more weathered and grubby than ever before, and sports a 70s style mustache and a flannel shirt while in a desert-located military vehicle. At a quick glance, it may be hard to recognize Efron, as fans continue to express on social media.

Efron will star as a man who, during the Vietnam War, ventures to the country to support his fighting friends and bring beer to boost morale. (This explains his grimy, sweaty appearance as the character in the new footage.) Short videos and stills of Efron with the thick facial hair in various outfits can be seen but an official trailer has yet to arrive.

The upcoming film is based on the book of the same name by Joanna Molloy and John “Chickie” Donohue, and while it doesn’t have a set premiere date yet, it will reportedly be released sometime in fall 2022. The Greatest Beer Run Ever is inspired by the real-life Donahue who snuck into the war-torn nation in 1967 to find his 3 closest friends and buy them beer that reminded them of home.

Efron’s fans continue to buzz about the film online, and the warmth and passion he’s likely to bring to the character in his portrayal. Russel Crowe and Bill Murray will have supporting roles, making this a notable star-studded, historical/ adventure film to look forward to!
