Zendaya didn’t get the CFDA Fashion Icon award by playing it safe with her style – so it doesn’t surprise us to see that she has changed up her hair in a big way! Why wait until the new year to make big changes; are we right?! The 25-year-old Spider-Man: No Way Home actress not only followed in the footsteps of Jessica Alba, Selena Gomez, and Dua Lipa (to name just three in the ever-growing list) by going for the chop – although her shoulder-length cut is longer than the bobs the previous three ladies have gone for this year – but she also unveiled a bold new hair color too! Yes, Zendaya’s brunette locks are gone, as the actress is now living her best life as a redhead – and we are completely obsessed!
The Dune actress debuted her new hair on Instagram by sharing a mirror selfie to her Instagram Story on December 16th, with the simple caption: “It was time for a change.” She also dutifully tagged hair stylist Sarah Shears from the OneEleven Lounge in Hollywood, who was responsible for the epic transformation, in the picture. Shears posted the picture on her own Instagram grid (we would be super proud of our work if we had achieved that look too!) and captioned it: “The beautiful inside and out @zendaya.” No arguments there! She continued: “I had the pleasure of doing Zendaya’s hair transformation. Haircut is giving 90’s super model with a heavy weight line and a lot of bounce. For color I did an all around what I’ll call burnt cinnamon gloss over all her natural color. Hope you guys love this! Love y’all!”
As predicted, the comments section was rife with compliments for Shears' work and Zendaya's transformation. "She looks so good!!" one user wrote, while another immediately noted the nod to her Spider-Man character, writing: "In her Mary Jane bag! Love it." "Omg this is amazing !!!!! I’m so proud" added another, followed by a red heart emoji. "Amazing" wrote another approving IG-user, complete with not one but three fire emojis.
This isn’t the first time the Emmy-winner has rocked the fiery hue, as she previously dyed her hair red for the 2019 press tour for Spider-Man: Far From Home. Is this her way of paying homage to her Spider-Man character MJ, who traditionally has red hair? (Zendaya doesn’t have red hair in her and boyfriend Tom Holland's movies, but Peter Parker's love interest in the comic book is traditionally a redhead!) Regardless of the reason, Zendaya looks incredible, and we can’t wait to see how she styles it on the red carpet over the next few months! However, if you do find youself missing Zendaya's brown hair, then you can see it on season 2 of Euphoria when it premieres on January 9th. Win, win!
