Zendaya Just Made A Statement About The New Season Of ‘Euphoria’—& Fans Are Freaking Out!

HBO’s Euphoria is a popular and beloved show for so many reasons, with its complex and layered portrayals of teenage life and identity. Zendaya’s Emmy-winning performance as main character Rue Bennett, who struggles with drug addiction, is one of the show’s most acclaimed and heart-rending aspects. She acknowledged this in a January 9th statement to Instagram, addressing her fans and millions of social media followers.

The actress utilized her platform on the date of Euphoria‘s second season premiere, writing that she believed only “mature audiences” should watch the show. Although it does take place in a high school, its content, as she explained, can be heavy and a lot to take in for viewers in their early teens or younger.

“I know I’ve said this before, but I do want to reiterate that Euphoria is for mature audiences,” she wrote. “This season, maybe even more so than the last, is deeply emotional and deals with subject matter that can be triggering and difficult to watch.”

She continued, “Please only watch if you feel comfortable. Take care of yourself and know that either way you are still loved and I can still feel your support.” She signed her note, “All my love, Daya.”

On Euphoria, many of the teen characters are seen struggling with drug addiction, mental health issues and tumultuous relationships all under rich lighting and cinematography. Zendaya referred to the poignant elements many viewers will relate to, and how seeing emotional scenes can be overwhelming for those who may have experienced similar events in real life.

The emotive acting from the star-studded cast, powerful script and stunning costumes are just some of the many reasons that the show resonates with millions of viewers. HBO rated it ‘R’ for scenes of violence, sexual content, explicit language, drug usage, graphic scenes, and other dark themes, so Zendaya’s note was considered to be “thoughtful” and “caring,” as some fans wrote in comments on her post.
