I am sure you have heard the news by now that Rihanna has dropped a new matte lipstick collection named Mattemoiselle. After teasing us with photos of herself wearing each lipstick color on her personal Instagram and the Fenty Beauty Instagram accounts, the pop star turned makeup creator blessed us with 14 matte lipsticks the day after Christmas. “Rihanna loves changing up her lipstick to suit her current mood, so she wanted to create a lipstick collection that would empower everyone to explore new looks. She hand-picked a range of shades that anyone can pull off, with names that embody the personality of each color,” Sephora states on their website. “Lipstick is all about having fun and expressing your mood at any given moment,” Rihanna says. “This collection makes it easier than ever because there’s a color for everyone.”
Our favorite Mattemoiselle colors, which all retail for $18.00, are “Candy Venom,” “Clapback,” “One Of The Boyz,” “Spanked” and “Freckle Fiesta.” If you’re looking for dupes, you’ve come to the right place! Do not get us wrong, we absolutely LOVE the Mattemoiselle shades. But, at the rate they’ve been selling, you will definitely need some backup options, especially for your wallet’s sake.
NYX Matte Lipstick in “Girl Crush” ($6.00)
NYX’s “Girl Crush” closely resembles Fenty Beauty’s “Candy Venom.” This hot pink lipstick is highly pigmented and has a creamy matte finish. It also has a long wear formula and will not dry out your lips. Not to mention that this lipstick is two-thirds cheaper than the retail price for Mattemoiselle lipsticks.
MAC Lipstick Matte in “Matte Royal” ($17.50)
“Clapback” in the Mattemoiselle collection is a deep, navy blue shade. If you are brave enough to wear this daring color, MAC’s “Matte Royal” is shockingly similar and has a creamy, no-shine finish.
MAC Matte Lipstick in “Lavender Jade”
MAC’s “Lavender Jade” Matte Lipstick is almost a perfect match to Mattemoiselle’s “One Of The Boyz.” Sephora calls the shade a “wild lilac” and MAC calls it “dirty mauve.” Either way, this purple-pink hue is an eye-catching lip color on any skin tone.
Too Faced La Creme Lip Cream in “Bon Bon” ($11.00, originally $22.00)
Too Faced’s “Bon Bon” is a rosy, peach lipstick that closely resembles Mattemoiselle’s “Spanked.” This lipstick has saturated pigments and a creamy finish. Oh, and it’s also 50% off at TooFaced.com right now!
NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil ($27.00)
I know what you’re thinking. A dupe that costs more than the original? “Freckle Fiesta” may arguably be one of the most popular shades in the Mattemoiselle collection and we want to make sure you have access to this amazing spiced terracotta shade just in case it sells out. Do not let the pencil form fool you! This NARS Matte Lip Pencil has a pigmented bright, orange-red shade and it is long-lasting and won’t leave your lips feeling dry like many other matte lipsticks.
