This year, in celebration of the 60th year of their classic Horsebit Loafer, Gucci has released the anniversary edition of the timeless shoe. The release will include versions of the shoe in bold colors, in materials ranging from crocodile ($1,650) to patent leather ($525) to suede ($495) and python ($990). It will also include a special “60th anniversary tag,” as well as all traditional horsebit and gold hardware. The collection is available now, both
online and in stores.
Frida Giannini, creative director of the fashion house, states that the Horsebit Loafer is one of the most important pieces ever created by the label–in fact, the shoe hasn’t changed design in the 60 years since it’s conception. He says:
Since 1953, the classic beauty and absolute functionality of the shoe has remained the same. The Horsebit Loafer is still one of the most iconic items in the Gucci archives, and it has been part of the permanent collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art since 1985, too.
A shoe that looked cool on our grandmothers, mothers, and now us? We’ll take it.
