Here’s a statistic that gave us quite the shock: For all the serums, creams, and other topicals that we put on our faces, about 90% simply stay there – right on top of our faces. In other words, only 10% are actually absorbed into the skin. This is because as an organ, our skin’s job is literally to be a barrier and not let things in. Only the teeniest, tiniest of molecules are capable of actually getting through the skin – and the ingredients that make up most facial products just aren’t this small. That’s why we’re so excited about Droplette, a new skincare system that uses sophisticated physics to help ingredients absorb 20 cell layers deep into your skin.
By sophisticated science, we mean sophisticated. The mechanisms behind Droplette were actually discovered when two female scientists were working on a way to painlessly deliver medication through the skin to ease the effects of a rare but debilitating pediatric dermatological condition. The ideas they came up with were so innovative that NASA (you know, of space rocket fame) provided the first round of grant funding. It was during this process that the soon-to-be founders of Droplette realized that these same mechanisms could also be used to more effectively deliver skincare products.
Without getting too scientific, here’s how Droplette works: You choose one of three different capsules filled with a special skincare formula (more about these later). Put it in the Droplette device, and then use it to mist your skin. Inside the machine, the formulas are being turned into incredibly tiny and highly concentrated droplets which are then sprayed into your skin. The combination of the small size of the droplets, the velocity with which they’re sprayed into your skin, and the way that velocity very slightly disrupts your skin allows the ingredients to permeate much deeper than they would otherwise while also delivering about 50% more hydration than what can get into your skin purely through topicals.
Now, those capsules: You have your choice of three different formulas, all of which can be delivered through a monthly subscription. The 10% collagen capsules are best for hydrating and firming. After using it, you can expect your skin to look plumper and more youthful. If fine lines and wrinkles are your biggest concern, go for the .15% retinol capsules. The anti-aging ingredients will help smooth and even out your skin. Finally, there are the 8% glycolic capsules. These help the Droplette act as an exfoliator, sloughing away dead skin and clearing imperfections to leave you with luscious, luminous skin.
