Here’s How Often You Should Be Washing Your Sheets, Comforter And Pillow

About one-third of our life is spent sleeping. Basically, this means we spend one-third of our lives in bed. The thought of that makes me feel utterly lazy. Anyway, that being said, bedding takes a toll. When is the last time you washed your sheets? Comforter? Pillows? If you can’t remember then we have some serious issues to discuss.

Point blank: our sheets are disgusting. If you don’t wash your bedding regularly, you’re most likely sleeping in dead skin cells, oil, sweat, bodily fluid, food crumbs (if you’re a snacker) and drool. To avoid this, here’s how often you should wash your bedding.

Sheets: The rule of thumb is to wash and/or change your sheets on a weekly basis. You can get away with every other week if weekly seems too much for you.

Comforter: Bulkier blankets and duvets need to be washed typically 2-3 times per year. If you have a duvet cover, simply slip it off and throw it in the wash. If your at-home washing equipment isn’t big enough to hold bulky comforters, try going to a laundromat or getting it professionally cleaned. Good Housekeeping recommends washing comforters when the seasons change, as an easy reminder.

Pillows: A lot of dust and dirt gets trapped in a pillow. In fact, dust mites even live in your pillow! Yuck. Wash pillows 1-2 times per year to clear out the dust and other debris.

Go home and wash your bedding! After all, the best feeling in the world is curling up in a clean bed.
