After months of debating, I finally invested in a
Clarisonic Mia ($129). Like most people who try the cleansing brush, I became a obsessed. I immediately loved the way the skin feels after I use my Clarisonic. After a few weeks of use, I also noticed that my skin was smoother. However, I was not happy with the price tag. As if spending $129 on the device wasn’t enough, brush heads are $27 a pop and need to be replaced every 3 months! That’s an extra $108 a year. Determined to save a few bucks, I found a way to clean my Clarisonic brush head and make it last longer. Not only will this method save you money, but it will prevent your Clarisonic from becoming a breeding ground for bacteria and mold (gross).
To deep clean your Clarisonic brush head, you’ll need the following:
Baking soda Hydrogen peroxide Lemon slices Water A small dish/bowl or spray bottle
First, mix the baking soda and hydrogen peroxide together in the small dish until it forms a paste. Then squeeze a few lemon slices into the paste. This mixture has disinfecting and cleaning properties that will make your Clarisonic brush head squeaky clean. While the brush head is attached to the handle, dip the bristles into the mixture and power on the device. I like to do this for one complete cycle. While the brush head is still spinning, I rinse the brush head off with clean water. Another method is to put the mixture into a small spray bottle. Simply spray the device with the mixture and let it dry. I spray the entire device with this mixture, including behind the brush head, to make sure it stays clean.
In between deep cleanings, you should should clean your brush head at least once week. To do this, remove the brush head from the handle and rinse it with warm soapy water. Dry the brush by rubbing it against a towel for a few seconds. Be warned that even with regular cleanings, your brush head won’t last forever. Eventually, the bristles will get worn down, making the brush head less effective.
If you don’t feel like going through all the extra effort to clean your brush head, I recommend buying a pack of brush heads instead. This set from Nordstrom comes with
4 brush heads for only $74 (that’s like getting one brush head free!).
