If you want to get a sense of how patient a person is, look no further than her eyebrows. All those stray, sparse hairs located in places that would drive the average woman bananas, is a surefire sign you’re dealing with a woman who is trying to naturally grow her eyebrows outs. She’s on her way to having eyebrows on fleek!

Eyebrow growth is something many women long for but never fully commit to. Yes, it’s time-consuming and a true test of willpower, but growing out your eyebrows can be done. But don’t just take our word for it–celebrity eyebrow specialist Elke Von Freudenberg, who has worked with Kate Moss, Anjelica Huston, and many other celebs, provides tips on how to make your brows grow faster. You’ll have the eyebrows of your dreams in no time!

There are six ways you can get thicker eyebrows. They are:

–Stop plucking –Exfoliate –Latisse –Enhancing serum –Castor oil –And as a last resort, hair transplants

Below, Von Freudenberg explains each method in detail.

1) Stop Plucking

“The hardest, yet easiest way to get brows growing back is to simply stop waxing, tweezing or threading for at least three months,” Freudenberg says. The key here is to practice patience, particularly if you’ve been tweezing or waxing for years and are noticing your brows are hesitant to grow back the way they once did. Freudenberg’s advice is to wait–it may take several months to get your natural eyebrows back, but it will happen.

2) Exfoliate

Freudenberg says, it’s important to remember to exfoliate your eyebrows with a product like Elke Brow Scrub ($24), which removes dead skin cells under and around the brows so that they can grow through the skin easier. Another added benefit to scrubbing nightly with the exfoliant is the scrubs gets your circulation going, which can also encourage new growth. Just remember to be gentle on your skin.

3) Latisse

That’s right–the same prescription treatment most commonly used to help eyelashes grow longer, fuller, and darker can also be used to promote eyebrow growth. It’s really simple to use. All you have to do is add a few drops to the sparse areas in your brows. The key to growing them, however, is to be consistent with the product. Your eyebrows will only grow as long as you continue to use it daily.

4) Eyebrow Enhancing Serum

You’ve probably also heard of brow-enhancing serums. Many of these serums contain proteins designed to strengthen brow hair, as well as herbal ingredients that are said to prevent hair loss and promote new growth. When possible, avoid serums that contain prostaglandin, which can irritate the eyes and cause other unwanted side effects.

BROWFOOD Phyto-Medic Eyebrow Enhancer ($88)

BROWFOOD Phyto-Medic Eyebrow Enhancer is just one example of a serum that can be applied nightly using a wand that resembles a liquid eyeliner applicator. Many users say it helped grow back their brows–though it can take about a month to see a difference (so don’t expect an overnight miracle).

Grande Cosmetics GrandeBROW Brow Enhancing Serum ($70)

Another popular serum on the market is Grande Cosmetics GrandeBROW Brow Enhancing Serum, which contains an advanced Pentapeptide chain, vitamins, and botanical extracts. The serum is meant to be used twice daily and again, you’ll have to be patient to see results.

5) Castor Oil

If the idea of putting a product containing chemicals you can’t pronounce so close to your eyes makes you uneasy, many women and men swear by organic castor oil for hair growth. While castor oil doesn’t smell like a bed of roses, is completely natural and affordable. The hair strengthening oil can be used on the eyebrows, lashes, and scalp. Apply it regularly at night and prepare to wait for a few weeks to see if it works for you.

6) Hair Transplants

Lastly, if all of the natural eyebrow-enhancing methods above fail you, there is the option of hair transplants. Hair transplants are there if you need a more drastic solution to get your old eyebrows back, because let’s face it–sometimes we plucked a little too hard for too long and nothing else is working. Hair transplant surgery for brows can sound a little scary, but this is how it works: at Bosley, small hairs from above the ear are removed and transplanted in the eyebrow area. The procedure takes about 2-3 hours and the result look amazingly natural.
