How To Wear White From Head To Toe (Without Looking Like A Nurse)

May 13, 2013 by Nayri Leanna Gregor

Summertime calls for all-white beachy-keen styles like Barbados babe, Rihanna and super socialite, Olivia Palermo have been rocking on the city streets. Pull off this look the right way and you can go from a business meeting straight to Diddy’s yacht party. All aboard? Not so fast! The fashion police beg for a check point because there’s a trick to the trend that will save you from looking like a nurse (and I’m not talking about the ones from the X rated flicks!)

Take a cue from our style experts and follow these guidelines to master the art of wearing white:

Loose on top OR bottom (keyword: OR)

Avoid both unless you want to look like you’re wearing a hefty storage bag. Mix and match e.g. Tight fit tops go best with loose trouser bottoms while a flowy blouse would look best with a tight fitting pencil skirt or skinny pants.

Size it up

When purchasing white tight-fit bottoms or skirts, buy one size up for comfort and to create the illusion of a slimmer waste.

The thicker the better

It’s easy to see-through white, but going for thicker or multi-textured materials will prevent peek-a-boo body parts and most likely withstand several washes.

Cover your kadunkadunk

If you’re feeling self-conscious about your bum draped in white, throw on a boyfriend blazer, hip-length cardigan or tunic to cover your bonbons.

Details make the difference

Looks for details and embellishments that add dimension to your white pieces. Buttons, elastic stitching, zippers and angled designs are a good sign.

Add classic sunglasses and sun hats for some added pizazz to your all-white summer wear.
