Nothing ruins a gorgeous new skirt or dress quite like dry, bumpy knees. Unfortunately, they’re all too common because it’s so easy for knees to get rough and dark due to the buildup of dead skin cells on their surface. There aren’t many oil glands on your knees, and constant bending, pressure and friction (yoga, anyone?) can make your knees look, well, not so pretty.
Luckily, there are some pretty easy ways to get your knees in shape for skirt season. First–and most importantly–exfoliating is essential. Use a salt scrub or exfoliating body wash to help slough off dead skin a few times per week. This will leave your knees looking–and feeling–a lot softer and smoother. When exfoliating, just make sure you aren’t causing any pain or stinging; those unpleasant sensations could mean that you’re actually scrubbing off healthy skin cells.
After you exfoliate, always follow up by applying a healthy layer of lotion over your knees. You may even want to consider using a lotion, cream or ointment that contains lactic acid or urea like DERMAdoctor’s KP Duty® Lotion. These ingredients help to break down dead skin cells, removing dry skin and bumps. By removing dead skin cells, you’re also making it easier for lotion to absorb into your skin.
Now, who’s ready for skirt season?!
