You buy that perfect pair of shoes, and you just can’t wait to get them out of the box. But is putting them back into that same box the right way to store them? Well, it depends on how often you plan on wearing them.
If you wear the shoes frequently…
It’s best to store them outside of the box. This gives the material time to dry (your feet do sweat!) and keeps shoes fresh. Wire racks, shoe trees and custom cabinets are great storage options.
If the shoes are seasonal or only for special occasions…
Then a box is the way to go. The box can protect the shoes from dust, sunlight and temperature. It doesn’t necessarily need to be in the original box—some people prefer to use plastic boxes so they can see the shoes that are inside. You should also stuff them with acid-free paper so that they retain their shape (if you’ll be storing them for a month of longer, you might also want to wrap them in acid-free paper). Remember, the paper must be acid-free since acid can damage the shoe materials.
