Last week during my morning drive to the train station, I was listening to a pretty serious debate. Well, it was more of a very opinionated conversation. There are two kinds of people in the world: those who towel off after a shower and those who air dry. I’m part of the former group and it makes me cringe to think about not fully drying off. My sister is part of the latter group and it drives me nuts!
Anyway, I see both sides of the “argument” and it seems like it really comes down to personal preference. A lot of people who were calling the radio station claimed they get out of the shower and proceed to roll around in their bed as a means to dry off. Towel-users were calling in and talking about the times they forgot to bring a towel into the bathroom and were so desperate to use something to dry off. They were so desperate to not air dry so they used their own underwear and babies diapers to dry off. I guess it’s safe to say that you’re either on one side or the other and there’s no in between.
In defense of those who air dry: towels can carry germs and bacteria if it’s not washed often, and they can be irritating to some people’s skin. However, instead of rubbing your body dry with a towel, simply pat your body dry. This will help with preventing dry patches and irritability.
In defense of those who towel dry: tap water can be very drying to the skin and you shouldn’t really let it linger on your body. Allowing water to dry on your skin, especially your face, can leave it feeling tight and even more dry.
Whether you air dry or towel dry, one thing is for certain and that’s moisturizing. To prevent your skin from becoming overly dry, it’s extremely important to moisturize immediately after a shower or bath.
Do you air dry or towel dry?!
