The One Exercise Everyone Should Stop Doing, According To Jillian Michaels

Personal trainer Jillian Michaels answered some of the most frequently asked fitness questions for Yahoo Beauty. She talked about how to curb cravings and lose weight, but those weren’t her best tips.

When asked “What’s one exercise people should stop wasting their time doing?” Jillian answered, “The elliptical. Ugh.” It’s as simple as that. She didn’t go into detail about why, but we did!

First of all, the elliptical does nothing for toning. According to Health.com, “The elliptical doesn’t use a natural body motion to work your body. Workouts that use natural motions like running, bending, or jumping are much more effective at toning muscles. Sure, the gliding motion of the elliptical burns calories, but that’s about it.”

It’s also easy to lose steam pretty quickly on the elliptical, since you’re in complete control of the pace. “It is also easy to slack off on the elliptical. With the treadmill you at least have to keep up with the pace you set. On the elliptical you start off with guns blazing, and 10 minutes later you are crawling along like a turtle.”

So next time you hit the gym, change up which machine you use! I personally used to be an elliptical fan but once I tried something new, I never went back.
