Maybe ivory skin was cool in like 17th century England, but in present-day America, it’s rough being pale. As a dark-haired, whiter than white girl, the struggle is very, very real. My skin is either sickly pale or lobster red, there is so nice tan medium for women of my complexion.
Aside from the Snow White comparisons, which are sometimes flattering, my contrasting dark hair and light skin peg me as “Goth Girl” right out the gate. Regardless of the number of preppy polos I own and the existence of my lifelong infatuation with the color pink, I will always be “Goth Girl” upon first impression. Yo, I didn’t choose to look like Wednesday Addams, it just happened.
Worse yet than the automatic stereotyping is the hell that is skirt season. Super fair skin allows body hair to be its most obvious (Yay), so good luck showing some leg if you haven’t shaved in the past two hours… I’m only slightly exaggerating.
Anyway, there are tons of things us fair-skinned gals need to avoid: SUN, dark makeup, etc… But chief among them, and perhaps the least obvious, is this: NUDE LIPSTICK. Pale girls should not, under any circumstances wear nude lipstick. It will wash you out and contribute to the malnourished, iron-deficient look we so desperately try to avoid.
Instead of going for the trendy nude lip, opt for something a bit brighter. If your pale skin has a warm undertone, try a peach or apricot-toned lip. If you have fair, but cool skin, try a light baby pink.
Good luck to the fairest of them all!
