This Color-Changing Dress Is Like A Mood Ring For Your Body

February 11, 2013 by Nikki Bogopolskaya

When we were growing up, mood rings were not only a fashion statement but the ultimate guage of pre-teen love. Remember the days when your friends could tell that you had a crush on a boy because your mood ring turned purple (excited) or green (nervous)?

Well, Netherlands-based designer Daan Roosegaarde, of Studio Roosegaarde has taken that concept several steps further with his color-changing “Intimacy Dress.” The dress, with it’s leather bodice and avant-garde cut, would make quite the entrance even without it’s signature trait–when the wearer’s heartbeat accelerates, e-foils on the dress are alerted and it becomes transparent. (Note to self: do not wear on first dates or to Justin Beiber concerts).

The Intimacy Dress is currently on display privately in Paris and Hong Kong, and will be coming to America in September. Accoridng to representatives for Studio Roosegaarde, future lines will be made more widely available to the public. They also have other high-tech apparel in mind–next up is a color-changing suit for men that activates when the wearer tells a lie–we’ll take one for every member of the gender, please!

It seems fashion is really one step ahead of the rest of us with these futuristic products: Givenchy color-changing lipstick, cold-weather gadget accessories, and more on the wearable tech trend.
