This Is The Worst Color To Wear In Photos, According To Experts

January 5, 2018 by Justine Schwartz

If you have big plans this weekend, it’s likely that you’re going to document them on social media. (If you don’t, did they even happen?) But before you fill up your Insta story with pre-game mirror selfies and late-night karaoke, be sure to choose an ensemble that is camera-ready. And by that we mean the right color.

You take an hour to choose your eyeshadow shades, right? Well, color matters for the other 90% of your body, experts say. It’s the difference between a photo that gets a lot of likes, and one that collects dust in your iPhoto library.

“Which ones?” you ask. Well, pale colors in general wash you out. But yellow, specifically, is a repeat offender. It’s just too tricky to pull off!

“Yellow is a super hard color to pull off in photos,” celebrity and TV stylist Jeni Elizabeth exclusively tell us.

Hm. Now, you’re probably thinking “Wait, wait, wait–I thought Gen-Z yellow was the new millennial pink.” And you’d be right. The color is definitely popping up on more feeds than ever before–and that’s because it truly *is* a happy color–it’s just a complicated one.

“Yellow is a happy, fun color and it can add so much to a picture,” Jeni Elizabeth explains. The risks just far outweigh the rewards. “It can also take away from the picture. It has the ability to make someone look ill just as quickly as it can make someone look amazing!” (See Zendaya for the latter).

So, there you have it–before you jump on the yellow bandwagon take a good long look in the mirror: is this YOUR color, or are you just trying to steal somebody else’s sunshine? Do pictures of you wearing yellow make you look and feel happy? Or do you start to resemble a human banana (and not a sexy one that Kylie Jenner is peeling…) Proceed with caution, my friends.
