60+ Gift Ideas For Everyone On Your List

Are you tired of giving up heaps of quality, fashionable clothing to the charity gods, only to pray like hell that good Karma will come back to you on your tax returns? Do you have a pair of True Religion jeans two sizes too small that have been sitting in your closet since before Britney met K Fed? You should join the millions of clothes coveters across the nation who are taking advantage of the fashion world’s hottest new trend: the clothing swap.

New York Magazine in April called the phenomenon a great chance to find the occasional “gem.” I couldn’t agree more. Veteran clothing swapper Camille Baker on the Super Citizen Showcase Web site has posted eight great tips every swapping novice should know. Baker suggests all participants bring clothes they value, noting, logically, that you shouldn’t bring anything you wouldn’t want to buy yourself; in other words, that Halloween costume from junior year in the Kappa house won’t fly.

Baker also suggests that shoppers bring a buddy — or three — as sifting through the clothing rubble is a great opportunity for quality girl time. Plus, Baker rightly adds, “the more people, the more clothes, the more clothes, the more fun!” She also suggests that swap participants nosh on snacks and sip on (occasion appropriate) beverages while shopping -– after all, this isn’t your grandmother’s garage sale.

To get swapping, visit the Bioré Style Swap Web site and get details on when and where the company this summer plans to host a clothing swap near you. There’s also ClothingSwap.org and SwapStyle.com. Check out this video to see what the events are like, and of course, happy swapping!
