Tucker Carlson made a sudden exit from Fox News on Monday, with the network announcing on-air that the two had “mutually” parted ways. As the media scrambles to find out exactly why Carlson was pulled from his top-rated show (it may involve that $800M Dominion Voting machine case) without any notice, Twitter is busy obsessing about how he signed off what would become his final show last Friday. A video is widely circulating of Carlson’s last minutes on the program, in which he signs off, “We’ll be back on Monday!”

Why is this relevant? Well, it either means that the conservative talking head either didn’t know he was about to be canned after 7 years of hosting, or as one user hilariously notes: “Fittingly, even Tucker’s last words were a lie.” Let’s dig in:

ICYMI, on Monday, April 24th, during Harris Faulkner’s 11am hour “The Faulkner Focus” show, the host calmly, quickly and without much emotion stopped the program with an announcement. “We have some news from within our Fox family,” she said.

“Fox News media and Tucker Carlson have mutually agreed to part ways,” she continued, to what we assume were stunned audiences. Tucker’s last show was this past Friday. We want to thank Tucker Carlson for his service to the network as a host and prior to that as a contributor.”

The dramatic decision may confuse the 3M viewers who tuned into “Tucker Carlson Tonight” each evening–especially since no additional details or reason for the firing have been provided.

If news of Carlson’s departure wasn’t being dissected enough in the mainstream media, social media was also a heyday for conspiracy theories and schadenfreude galore about the often-controversial pundit for losing his job.

“Congrats to Tucker Carlson upon becoming the first TV host in history to be fired by CNN, MCNBC, and Fox News – the cable TV Triple Crown!” congressman Brendan Boyle Tweeted.

Another major revelation was revealed in the final minutes of his broadcast on Friday evening, in a clip which is now being circulated. At the bottom of the program, Carlson shared a pizza with deliveryman Tyler Murrell who made headlines for thwarting a suspected car thief (or “employee of the year,” as Carlson dubbed him).

As the show drew to a close, Carlson signed off with the words, “See you on Monday.”

We know know that those would be his final words on the network, and that come Monday his exit from the network would become national news of its own.

“Here was the end of what turned out to be Tucker Carlson’s final Fox News show last Friday,” Twitter user Aaron Rupar points out in a Tweet that has since garnered 5.1M views.

“Certainly no indication that he didn’t expect to be on the air tonight. In fact Tucker’s final words are, “we’ll be back on Monday.”

The Tweet proves that Carlson gave―or at least had ― no clue that the segment would be his last.

“Fittingly, even Tucker’s last words were a lie,” one Twitter wit noted.

The news of Carlson’s departure from Fox News comes after the conservative network agreed to pay Dominion Voting Systems $787 million in the midst of a bombshell lawsuit. The voting machine company sued the media conglomerate for knowingly spreading false information about their machines on-air.

The case brought new leaked audio tapes from Rudy Giuliani, as well as leaked texts and emails from Fox News hosts in which they slammed Rudy Giuliani as “an insane person” and an “idiot.”

For his part, leaked texts revealed Tucker Carlson’s *true* feelings about Donald Trump.

In leaked private text messages on January 4th, 2021, Carlson said, “We are very, very close to being able to ignore Trump most nights. I truly can’t wait. I hate him passionately. I can’t handle much more of this.” Yikes!
