Last season, she made waves with black wedding dresses, and for 2013 Vera Wang is seeing brides in an even more improbable bridal color: red!
“Memorable” is what every new designer strives for, but is Vera taking it to the next level with these scarlet, rust and plum-colored gowns? Here’s one argument: whether the style is a hit or a miss, if it’s on people’s minds, you’re doing something right. We’ve rounded up the 10 most memorable gowns from this season’s Bridal Market — with Vera’s entire show topping the list.
Vera Wang
Last year, the designer’s spooky black gowns dominated headlines. This week, Vera Wang is seeing red. Bright crimson and dark maroon gowns made up her entire Spring 2013 bridal collection. For better or for worse, these are the top 10 most memorable gowns from Spring 2013 Bridal Fashion Week thus far.
Douglas Hannant
Douglas Hannant might not be a designer name everyone knows just yet, but his edgy (and occasionally, breathtakingly gorgeous) designs are really putting him on the bridal map this year. This black floral ballgown is by far one of the most distinct looks of Spring 2013.
Reem Acra
We love this floaty Reem Acra gown because of that unique combination of clean lines and an ethereal bit of flounce. Few runway styles are as instantly wearable as this one.
Temperley London
The Temperley London collection was particularly exciting this year – this draped sleeve, deep V-neck gown with a ruched golden bodice is somewhere between Grecian goddess and “Game Of Thrones” princess – and we’re totally digging it.
Oscar de la Renta
Are you starting to notice a pattern here? Big, billowing sleeves are IN, as evidenced by this sparkling, tulle-tastic number from Oscar de la Renta.
Romona Keveza
Black is BACK. Romona Keveza featured a surprising amount of colored wedding dresses in her Spring 2013 collection – black, metallic silver, and red – but we’re quite partial to this black lace appliqued style with a pink-tinted skirt.
Carolina Herrera
Is it a dress? Is it a pantsuit? Is the real star that amazing floppy hat? (Possibly.) Either way, this wedding look from Carolina Herrera definitely created quite a buzz when it hit the runways.
Vera Wang
Here’s another Vera Wang gown from her Spring 2013 collection. We thought a black gown was the antithesis of virginal bridal white, but we’re having second thoughts. That award clearly goes to this deep, stained plum hue. (Goth brides, take note!)
Oscar de la Renta
This opulent Oscar de la Renta bridal look suddenly makes us very wary of a Spanish Inquisition…in the wedding world. (We’ll pass, thanks.)
Amsale
We love the funky, fashion forward wedding dress from Amsale. With the oversized floral appliques, the asymmetrical peplum skirt, and the twisted bodice, it’s all the right kinds of crazy.
