What Is The Ideal Temperature For Your Hair Dryer?

January 22, 2016 by Rachel Gulmi

Do you always dry your hair using the highest heat setting on your hair dryer? Of course, this will dry your hair the fastest but it might not be the best option depending on your hair type and how wet your hair is. Huffington Post tapped into hairstylist Josue Perez for his opinion on what temperature your hair dryer should be.

Perez says the different levels of heat should be adjusted according to your hair’s texture and condition. “The high heat is available for really thick or coarse hair, and to remove excessive moisture when the hair is really wet, but always remember to keep the dryer moving and never focus on one portion of the hair for too long,” he said. “The low setting is perfect for thin or fragile hair. If your hair is only damp instead of wet, it is important to use the low heat setting to prevent over-drying.”

To help set your hair in place, use the “cool shot” button. It will seal the hair cuticle, add shine and hold your hair in place. Perez suggests, “When your hair is about 80 percent dry, switch over to the cool shot.”

Next time you blow dry your hair, try not to automatically blast the heat!
