I’m just going to start by admitting it. I am a Florida Girl. I was born and raised in South Florida, and after 23 years in the Sunshine State, I finally managed to escape. You may think that being from Florida would be cool, because I grew up at the beach and had an endless summer, but believe me it’s not what you think. When you tell people you’re from Florida they look at you like you’re CRAZY. Ever seen the Florida Man Twitter? Remember the hanging chad election fiasco of 2000? Florida is whack.
And if that’s not enough proof, let’s talk about fashion in Florida. Back in my hometown, I thought I had really good fashion sense. Like every “fashionista,” I had a Pinterest board covered in trendy clothes I would never be able to afford or pull off, and a closet full of clothes that my friends loved to borrow. So I thought I had a pretty great wardrobe, but I was wrong. Aside from the rude awakening I got when I stepped out of the airport on my first day in New York and it was snowing, I was also in for a big surprise in the fashion world. As soon as I got here I realized that nothing in my wardrobe was socially acceptable. So I played it cool at first and bought some new pieces, but the SHEFinds gals were not convinced. Every time we discuss a trend and I think it’s cool, I get shot down because “that must be a Florida thing.”
So since these “only cool in Florida” things started to pile up, I decided to call myself out and write a post about it. Because now that I’ve seen them laid out in the slideshow, I can admit that Florida fashion is completely ridiculous. So if you’re from Florida or you just want to make fun of Florida like everyone else in the world, check out the 10 things that only Florida girls wear.
*Disclaimer: I DO NOT wear any of these things anymore. I swear.
