If there’s anything you can do to your iPhone to help its battery last longer you’ll do it, right? What if the changes that need to be made are so simple that you can do them within seconds (and it won’t cost you a dime?). That’s the case when it comes to these two screen settings that you should change immediately because they ruin your iPhone battery. Swadesh Baniya, chief executive officer and co-founder at Info Techs Nepal, says these two screen settings on an iPhone can significantly impact battery life and should be changed to improve battery performance.
Background App Refresh
This feature allows apps to refresh their content in the background even when they are not actively being used, Baniya explains. “While having up-to-date information when opening an app can be convenient, it can also consume a lot of battery power,” he says.
Background App Refresh is bad for your battery because it causes apps to continuously use resources, such as processing power and data, even when not in use, he says. “This can drain the battery quickly, especially if many apps have enabled this feature.”
To Change Background App Refresh:
- Go to Settings on your iPhone
- Tap General
- Tap Background App Refresh
You can turn off the feature for all apps or choose individual apps to turn it off for.
Display Brightness
The brighter your iPhone screen, the more battery power it uses — plain and simple. “Display Brightness is bad for your battery because the screen is one of the most power-hungry components of the iPhone,” Baniya says. “The brighter the screen, the more power it requires, which can quickly drain your battery if you keep it at maximum brightness for extended periods.”
To Change Display Brightness:
- Go to Settings on your iPhone.
- Tap Display & Brightness
Adjust the brightness by dragging the slider to the left to reduce brightness or to the right to increase brightness.
Just by changing these settings — which will take a few minutes from your day — you can save a ton of battery power on your iPhone.
