There’s always room to improve your iPhone and make sure that it’s up to speed and meeting your needs and expectations. One common complaint is that the iPhone battery doesn’t seem to hold a charge for very long. The apps and even the settings that you use most often can have a big impact on your phone’s battery and its longevity. But what if you’ve already lowered your screen’s brightness, disabled Push Notifications, and haven’t relied on Background App Refresh in years? Why is your battery still depleting quickly and what can be done about it?

Some settings that aren’t even on your radar may have a lot to do with it. Before you lift a finger to delete yet another social media app in the hopes that it will make your phone fast again, try this: adjust these two settings on your iPhone that can negatively affect your battery.

Haptic Keyboard

Your iPhone’s haptic keyboard gives your keyboard a sound and a vibration, both of which translate to a more satisfying tactile and auditory experience. But even Apple’s support page admits that this setting can be a battery drainer. And considering how this feature isn’t truly enhancing much more than the feel and sound of your texting, is it really worth all of that battery power? Probably not.

If you’ve enabled haptic keyboard, turn it off by going to Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Keyboard Feedback and toggle off Haptic.

Widgets

Your ability to glance at your iPhone screen and see the weather, important news headlines, and notifications — all at one time – is thanks to the convenience of Widgets. Widgets provide info you want in bite-size chunks, allowing you to organize your lock screen in a way that delivers pertinent information for you. But if you find yourself constantly scrolling past your widgets and aren’t even sure what use they have other than to take up battery power, do yourself and your phone a favor: remove them.

To do that, press down on your lock screen and click on Customize > Lock Screen > tap on the widget box > and remove each widget one by one.

These two settings are fun, convenient, and appealing for a number of reasons. But they’re also taking up precious battery power. Delete or disable them to get back more battery.
