If you’ve noticed that your phone refuses to hold a charge for very long, the culprit may be the apps you’ve downloaded. Some apps are simply more taxing than others because they work hard to deliver you an experience and they have larger megabyte sizes than other apps.

So, what can you do about it? For starters, it helps to know which apps demand more of your phone’s resources than others. From there, you can determine whether having a longer-lasting battery outweighs the need to use that particular app — or if you’re happy to resign yourself to keeping a charger nearby and reaching for it when you open that app. Here are three apps you can consider deleting from your iPhone if you want to save battery power.

Airline Apps

Airline apps like United Airlines, as well as travel-adjacent apps like Airbnb, take up a great deal of battery power on your phone because they boast larger gigabytes. If you’re a frequent traveler, they may be worth the hassle to you. But if you plan a few vacations per year, consider deleting these apps and accessing their websites or only downloading them when they are needed and then deleting them.

Car and Food Service Apps

Whether your car and food services of choice are Uber, Lyft, or Uber Eats, the bad news is that all of these apps are incredibly draining on your phone’s battery. This is a tough one because you may rely on these services weekly or even daily. One thing that can help is minimizing the number of these apps that you download. If you love Uber, for example, consider only keeping Uber downloaded to save battery life.

Facebook

Perhaps the most famous of all battery-taxing apps, Facebook does everything from play continuous videos to consistently updating with brand new content every second. If you find the Facebook app is seriously interfering with your phone’s battery power and speed, you can delete it and use Facebook via your browser — or you can download Facebook Lite, which functions in almost the same way, but lacks a few key features that take up more battery power.

And if you aren’t eager to delete any of these apps because you find them too helpful, you can help boost your battery by turning off Background App Refresh, which ensures your app content is constantly updated, but takes up a great deal of battery in the process.
