Charging your phone seven times a day is nobody’s idea of a good use of time. You rely on your smart phone to be there for you when you need it, whether you’re using it for work, play, or communication with family and loved ones. But there are a number of bad tech habits you could be engaging in that are causing your battery power to diminish fast. And with so much going on at all times, you can’t be judged for making these mistakes — so no judgement here! Here are three sneaky reasons your iPhone battery might be draining so fast.

Apps Running In The Background

“If you find yourself charging your iPhone more often than you should, there could be several sneaky reasons behind the rapid battery drain,” says Kelvin Wira, founder of Superpixel. “One potential culprit is the number of apps running in the background. Some apps consume power even when they’re not actively in use, so it’s worth checking your battery usage data to see which apps are the main culprits.”

To do this, go to Settings > Battery. You’ll be able to view information about your battery usage for the last 24 hours and the last 10 days.

Your Screen Is Too Bright

Is your screen so bright that it can be seen from two rooms away in your home? By adjusting your brightness, you may gain back valuable battery power without feeling like you’re missing out. “Another possibility is that your iPhone’s screen brightness is too high, which can quickly deplete your battery,” Wira says. “Adjusting the brightness level can help conserve power.”

To adjust brightness, go to Settings > Display & Brightness. Drag the slider so that the brightness is lowered.

Your Software is Outdated

“Finally, battery drain can also be caused by outdated software,” Wira warns. “Software updates often include bug fixes and performance enhancements that can help improve battery life. So, it’s worth checking for software updates and installing them if available.” To check for updates, go to Settings > General > Software Update.

“By identifying and addressing these sneaky battery-draining issues, you can extend the battery life of your iPhone and enjoy longer periods between charges,” Wira says.
