Not having enough storage space on your device is a common iPhone complaint, but it’s one that has a tried-and-true solution: delete space-hogging apps and you’ll instantly gain back storage.
Deleting apps can be a much easier and more painless route than going through your iPhone slowly, assessing every photo and video you’ve ever taken, and trying to decide which of them you can afford to part ways with emotionally. In fact, you may have apps on your phone that you barely use that are taking up far more space than they have any right to take up. And when your phone lacks storage space, it becomes more difficult for it to do basic tasks, like downloading files and apps or snapping more photos.
Before you resort to desperate measures, consider deleting one of these space-hogging apps on your iPhone that you probably don’t use. Get rid of them and clear up space on your device.
Social Media Apps
Social media apps like Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok are among the leading culprits of storage space robbery. The reason is because they do so much — from playing videos and constantly updating with new content to sometimes storing duplicates of photos and videos you take and share. The fewer social media apps you keep on your phone, the more storage space you’ll have — that’s the unfortunate truth. If you can bring yourself to keep just one of these apps and delete the rest, you’ll not only gain back a ton of free time, which is always nice, but your phone will thank you — and will give you back some much-needed storage space.
Streaming Services
We all love having streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, Spotify, YouTube, and Amazon Prime on our phones because these apps put entertainment right in our hands and allow us to watch our favorite shows and movies and listen to music whenever we want. But it should come as no shock that these apps are resource-intensive and, therefore, take up storage space and deplete battery rather quickly. No one would suggest deleting all of your streaming services, but if you can cherry pick some of the ones you love most and delete the rest, you will help your phone retain more storage space.
Games
A few years back, when Words With Friends became a phenomenon, some smartphone users also began noticing significant battery drainage and a lot less storage space on their devices. We are now more aware of how resource-intensive games, including those with sophisticated animation, take up a great deal of space on our phones. One or two games on your phone won’t likely do much (unless they are among those that are extremely busy). But if you have downloaded a number of games over the years, and never delete anything, all of those gaming apps could be contributing to less overall storage space. Decide which games you need and which you can delete and you’ll likely gain back a lot more storage space.
It’s good practice to regularly delete apps you no longer use, while also paying close attention to your settings. Is your phone screen too bright? Do you have Background App Refresh enabled? All of these seemingly small details on your device really add up when it comes to storage space.
