If you are hoping to lose weight, it’s a good idea to take a closer look at what you are eating–especially for breakfast. Breakfast is known as the most important meal of the day, and that’s still true if you are trying to lose weight. In other words, skipping breakfast isn’t the answer for sustainable weight loss. In fact, according to WebMD, “[M]ore than 75% of people who lose more than 30 pounds and keep it off eat the morning meal every single day.”

However, what you choose to eat for breakfast definitely plays a factor. With that in mind, keep reading for the 4 breakfast staples you should cut out ASAP for weight loss!

Bagel

If you want to lose weight, cutting out bagels is a good first step. Bagels are high in calories--around 350 calories per serving. Plus, according to Health, "Most bagels lack vitamins, minerals, and fiber. Without fiber, the carbohydrates in a bagel digest quickly, convert to sugar, and then, very possibly, to fat."

With that in mind, starting off your day with a bagel is probably not the best way to jump start your metabolism or support weight loss.

Cereal

Not all cereals are bad for weight loss. However, many seemingly healthy options are full of sugar and lack fiber, which can hurt your overall diet.

According to Eat This, Not That!, you should be reading the nutrition labels of every cereal box, even the seemingly healthy options: "We recommend looking for a cereal with at least 3 grams of fiber and no more than 10 grams of sugar per 1 cup serving."

Bacon and Sausage

Processed meats should be kept in moderation for any healthy diet. They are high in salt and fat, and can be a huge problem for your diet.

Not only is consuming processed meats associated weight gain, but it's also tied to many chronic health conditions.

Muffins

Although muffins are often considered a healthy dessert option, they are actually full of calories, sugar, and fat. Store bought muffin brands can have around 400 calories per serving.

With that in mind, avoiding muffins altogether or trying a healthier recipe at home is best.
