We could all use more time in our day. That means: less time spent waiting for our iPhone to cooperate and tend to our needs. If you’re finding your phone is slow as honey, there’s no reason to keep waiting and waiting for it to catch up with your demands. Instead, try these four settings hacks that will help give your phone a boost in speed and efficiency.

Disable Background App Refresh

When you have Background App Refresh enabled, your apps are running — and running — and running. And this keeps going on even when you aren’t using the app, which is a complete waste of resources. Of course, the benefits of enabling this app include not having to wait for an app to load and having it always ready with new content. But that convenience comes at the expense of your phone’s battery. For a faster phone, disable this setting by going to Settings > General > Background App Refresh.

Turn Off Location Services

You’ll probably want Location Services turned on for many reasons, including when you’re using an app with GPS. But you can turn it off when you know you’re not going to need it and save yourself some battery power. Location Services taxes your battery and processing cycles — disable it by going to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services.

Turn Down Screen Brightness

If you do nothing else to help your phone run faster, make sure you turn down your screen brightness. A super bright screen is absolutely killing your battery and taking up too many resources. Go to Settings > Display & Brightness > drag down the slider.

Update Software and Apps

It’s important to keep your iOS software and apps updated for a few reasons. The first: you’ll leave yourself less vulnerable to hackers and viruses. The second: doing so eliminates any problems that software and app developers may have discovered so that your phone runs as efficiently — and quickly — as possible.
