If you own an iPhone you have an advantage: Apple does a pretty good job at vetting all apps that come through to its App Store. That means, if you are downloading a game (or any other app) from the App Store, there’s a better than decent chance that it has been analyzed and wouldn’t be allowed through if it could cause issues like putting malware on your device.

That does not mean that all of the games on your iPhone are one and the same. Some can cause scary pop-ups to occur when you’re in Safari — some may even have you believing you have been infected with a virus. But, at the end of the day, the most common complaints about viruses, malware, and games occur on Android gaming apps. Several games in Google Play have been found to contain malicious software. Jailbreaking your iPhone so that you can download apps that haven’t been approved by Apple is one major way an Apple device can become infected with spyware and other viruses. These four popular games are actually bad for your device — some, like number three, can even cause viruses.

Four Apps That Can Cause Viruses

Four examples of apps that have been found to contain viruses on Android include Gem Puzzle, LuckyYou, Make Money - Game Time, and Yeloli Princess Makeup.

These are just a few of hundreds of Android apps that third-party security companies have analyzed and found can contain malware, including the SpinOk spyware module.

Tips For Staying Safe When Downloading Games

Whether you are downloading games or any other app, there are a few important tips to keep in mind to stay safe and prevent malware infections. For starters, never jailbreak your iPhone — this practice opens you up to being far more vulnerable when it comes to viruses. Always research games and apps before downloading them. Read reviews and ratings and find out if anyone else has experienced any problems with them in the past. And, finally, don’t download apps that appear in third-party locations separate from the App Store or Google Play.

Keeping these tips in mind can help keep your iPhone safe and secure against threats like viruses.
